“Provins at the time of the Fairs of Champagne”This is a former merchant house. Dating from the 13th century, it is one of the most sumptuous buildings of Provins. Admire the sophisticated architecture of the rooms, sculpted capitals and the cross-rib vaults. This edifice was used as a covered market during the Fairs of Champagne up to the end of the 13th century, then as the place for paying tithes. Today, the Tithe Barn houses a permanent exhibition: scenes and characters bring to life the main crafts and the merchant activities of this time. Audio-guided visits available in exchange for identity papers.

For those reading review of attractions in ProvinsI gave the thumbs down to the Souterranes but the thumbs up for here. One descends to the medieval basement which is set out with mankins in contemporary costume. One listens to an easily operated message in which the mankins speak - sounds crass but is in fact fascinating. The wool trade would... More

The barn is the first stop in the tour of Provins. It is a grate intro to the town, medieval fairs and how Provins came to be. The attraction has life sized displays of the major actors in the fairs, ensconced in the 13th century barn. They will supply a wand for audio recordings in different languages so everyone will... I was fascinated by how the middle age men cleaned the animal skin. Could be interesting in some points how the Italians introduced trade in this area!

This is a building in Proving that is included in the Proving Pass, and has an exhibit of the different merchants that came to Proving during the Middle Age to sell their products. It is a two story building, a short visit but hels to visualize what was the town activity like during those years.

We bought the Provins Pass at the tourist office, which includes entry to the Tariff/Tithe Barn, the Cesar Tower, the Underground Gallery, and the museum for 12 Euro... great way to hit all the major Provins elements. La Grange aux Dimes, or the Tithe barn, houses exhibits on how the Champagne fairs operated during medieval times. Paid entry includes audio... More

After visiting the Tour Caesar, one should stop by the La Grange aux Dimes if one is interested in the history of merchants in medieval times. Admission of 4.5 Euros acceptable.

I recommend the audio tour guide especially for English only tourists, it takes a good hour listening to all the stories of the 12 groups displayed. Very worthwhile especially for parents to accompany their children & explain the settings. An informative & interesting trip through medieval history & times.

Very small yet did a good job representing the merchants the batter or sold their goods. Architecture of the building is wonderful.
