Discovery Park is a gem. It has phenomenal water views and beach access, birding, dog-walking and a feeling of being far away from the city even while you are in the city. In my opinion this is the most valuable real estate in Seattle

Plenty of trails plus the coastline for walking. Views of ferry boats, mt.ranier, west islands, coastal mountains are superb. Adequate parking without fee. Few benches on trails at view points. Wonderful walking area. Restrooms not very obvious. Watch for signage for light house, restrooms.

Long weekend visit to Seattle without a car, but wanted to get out of the city proper for a bit and see some nature, this park was a good way to go. [The no. 24 public bus from the downtown Seattle area lets you off...More

Discovery Park is mostly a wooded area with many quite hikes But ... you can walk down to the beach or by the few buildings left that were officer housing in the early 1900's when this area was Fort Lawton.

This park has amazing views in all directions. We were there on a clear day and could see Mount Ranier in all its splendor. The trials though the park are easy and well maintained.

The Loop Trail Hike (2.8 miles) offers so good views of the Puget Sound as well as a passing through a nice beach.

Get there early. There is a lot to do in the beach. The grandson enjoyed walking and discovery sea shells and fishes that washed on shore. You can spend all day; plan ahead.

This part has a lovely 3-5 K loop. You see the beach, lovely greens, forest - with exceptionally nice walking trails. People are friendly. You can go for a hike - or go for a picnic on the lawn. There are some steep hills, but...More

You can drive or take a taxi there. We stopped at the Visitor center to refresh and then took a free shuttle to the beach. It runs every 20 min or so and it's quite convenient. We really enjoyed the walk by the beach. It's...More

What is the fastest route to the beach/lighthouse? I've read 1-1.5 hours one way, then I've read the loop takes you there, 2 hours total round trip? I am just a little confused and any clarification that someone could offer me would be great. I am considering taking my mom there so not looking to do any excessive hiking but it sounds like the lighthouse would be neat to see. Thanks!

There is a 1.5 mile, not hour, walk from the nearest parking lot. There are 8 spaces at the lighthouse for which you will need a permit. Generally, they are for those not physically able so an elerdy person or impaired my... More
