This bust in Pioneer Square is also known as Chief Seattle, but the Sealth name is probably more accurately representative of the original. Apart from the bust and it's setting, it is well worth going into the free nearby Milepost 31 Museum which has excellent...More

If you are in Pioneer Square you will come across this monument to Chief Seattle, the man the city is named after. It was created by local artist James Wehn and you will see some information about the man himself.

We visited Pioneer Square on a walking tour and saw the statue. The guide told us about Chief Seattle and what he did and all he got was this small statue.

Chief Sealth (aka Chief Seattle) was someone who is still worth remembering today. He was very forward-looking, perhaps envisioning the future environmental movement. There are a number of excellent likenesses of him around the city. Explore, ask, and look for them.

This can be found close by to the Underground Tour in Pioneer Square. Other than his bust, and brief mentions in guidebooks that the city was named after this First Nations leader, there's practically nothing here that would show a tourist/ non local how he...More
