We sat on the patio of The Lakefront hotel and watched the float planes landing and taking off and there were many of them. Apparently more people own a small plane in Alaska than anywhere else and I can believe it. Its fascinating watching them all colours of the rainbow. Also from there you can watch planes taking off and... More

There is parking on the north side of the lake with a little park. The lake is beautiful and I walked all the way around it. There is also parking at the DOT where I viewed the planes taking off over Lake Spenard and Lake Hood. Each plane hut is unique the if the wind is calm the lake is... More

Not a better place in the world to watch floatplanes at the worlds largest and busiest seaplane base! You can walk around the lake, it's a 4 mile walk.

Lot of floatplanes there, you can take floatplane ride from there to various tourist attractions or just half an hour city ride

Very interesting..... watching sea planes taking off and landing. A different way of life than the lower 48 states.

One could sit for hours and watch the float planes come and go. Very good walk around the lake. Well worth a visit.

We only knew a little about the local air services, however through the trolley tour got to see both Lake Spenard and Lake Hood. The range of float planes and flights taking off or retuning was amazing.

I've been around private airplanes since my teens but have never seen any airfield even approaching the size of the one at Lake Spaniard, nor one that has areas for both planes with wheels and those with floats. I've always known that there were a larger number of private aircraft per capita than in any of the lower 48. Nonetheless,... More

We stopped here to view the lake and all the float planes taking off and landing on the water. So many little sea planes in one area! The lake is very beautiful and so are the surroundings. An Alaskan way of travel from town to town and to remote areas.
