Offering a wealth of information, the Settlement Center provides a wonderful insight into Iceland’s history. It also gives you the chance to put your visit into the context of the country’s past. It also houses a cozy licensed restaurant, a café and a souvenir shop. The Center consists of three buildings, the warehouse, the merchant house and the reception hall. The exhibitions recreate the fascinating drama of the sagas and the birth of this island nation. They also bring to life one of Iceland’s most important cultural treasures, Egils Saga. There are two entertaining and educational exhibitions at the Settlement Center. While one tells the story of the first settlers, the other reveals the story of Iceland’s most important saga – Egils Saga. Egill Skalla-Grimson was a famous Viking and poet, and his saga is closely linked to the settlement period, as his father was one of the first settlers.

This is a walk-thru, audio tour of the history of the early Icelanders. There are a series of rooms, devoted to different times and people. Takes under an hour. Also a gift shop, and clean bathrooms.

We had very helpful Icelandic servers, accommodating my gluten free needs, and overall creating an environment that was very comfortable. We were there in the first big storm of the season, and were really able to unwind in this location.

We learnt a lot on our tour around the exhibitions. We luckily arrived in the evening and had both exhibitions to ourselves so we didn't feel rushed. One less star because I did think it was expensive for what it was but it was interesting...More

Well worth the time to use the headphones and see the two exhibits offered here. They are inventive and really are folk art. Learning history this way is so much fun. Great for adults and a must for every child.

As we had skipped the Saga Museum in Reykjavik, we found the Settlement Center very informative, and were very pleased we visited and took the audio tour. Recommended.

Stumbled upon this after eating dinner at the restaurant (recommended). Decent prices, kids enjoyed it and we all learned a lot. Doesn't take a ton of time either.

Frankly, we expected a larger site than this. But we still found this to be worth the visit. A very well laid out self-guided tour with plenty of good information.
