Painstakingly rebuilt after being disassembled in the 1960s, this Greek Revival masterpiece saw Lincoln serve as a lawyer and legislator. In 1858, Lincoln delivered his landmark "House Divided" speech in the Capitol's Representatives Hall.

Many visits to Springfield and the Old State Capitol building, and we've always found it worth stopping through. There is usually something special happening, from art shows to kids' crafts to other events centered around learning history. If you can get a tour from the staff, it's definitely worth it! If you're just walking through on your own, it's still... More

This was open on Sunday. There was a Civil War encampment going on so it was very interesting to meet a talk with the solders. You would need to see a schedule of events to see when things are taking place. the Old building was interesting to see,

This is our 3 visit to the Old State Capitol. Not only is the history interesting to dig into, the capitol happened to have visitor attractions all three times we have been here. This year was the Lincoln Troubadours. A must see when in Springfield.

This is a nice place to visit. The exterior of the building is original, however the interior has been gutted and replaced to look like it was when Lincoln was serving in the IL House. It is in walking distance to the current IL Capital building, the IL Supreme Court, Governor's Mansion, and Lincoln's Law Offices. While we write there,... More

A short walkthrough this building and you'll get a view of many historical items. And you can see where Lincoln sat while in the House in the state legislature.

The Old State Capitol had a nice guided walking tour. At the end, the Troubadours, an excellent Springfield group of five, sang period and Civil War songs, while telling the stories why the songs were important. They also had a person dressed as Lincoln who gave one of Lincoln's late speeches. It was excellent.

This time, I only walked by and was only outside for pictures. But it's nice and the tour is good, when we've done it in the past. I was in town for the IL FFA state convention. There were lots of people around.

the weekend we visited there was a civil war encampment going on. Tons of people dressed in costume for the entire weekend camping out. Medical demo's of how the did things back in the day was very educational. Inside the capital they had dancing and displays set up. Great trip.

We had planned to just walk through this, but when we entered a tour had just started. The guide was friendly and informative. I can't believe the amazing restoration the state went through to reconstruct this! Dismantling and all?! Set aside 30 minutes to take your time and enjoy the tour.
