The Castello di Bracciano - a stone's throw from Rome - is one of the most impressive castles in Italy, Europe and the world. Completed in 1485 by the Orsini family, around an existing 12th century Vico fortress, it is one of the few renaissance castles in Italy that - thanks to the Odescalchi family - is open to the public. It also plays host to numerous weddings, galas and important cultural events throughout the year.

We spent an hour or so self guided around this lovely castle. If you're interested in ancient architecture and history you'll love the castle itself, views are amazing onto the lake.

Beautiful castel in a good shape, with interesting rooms and painting. It is connected with one of the most important family of Rome (Orsini), so it is full of history. It has a marvellous view of the entire lake of Bracciano, which makes it wonderful

Many of you may know this is the castle where Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were married many years ago. It's been the film set for many moves over the last 30 years. The first time I stayed in the Bracciano area I wasn't able...More

Wikipedia advised that this castle is 3 km, 2 miles, from Bracciano. Not the case. It is right in the town of Bracciano, maximum 10 minutes walk from the train station./ Nothing worse that reading inaccurate information when traveling. Unfortunately the 16th century fresco depicting...More

You can easily visit this castle from Rome. It is atop the hill in the town of Bracciano. There is a lot of history here, and the view across the lake and countryside from the castle is fantastic. The painted wood ceilings of the castle...More

I really like the medieval castles. It's a good example of them, with towers, stone walls and history. On this particular case, you can see a great view of the bracciano lake but the tour opened for visitors is limited. The general admission is not...More

This is a must see attraction. Magnificent views over Lago Bracciano. The castle is beautifully restored. Magnificent rooms and helpful explanations. There are tours in English and Italian. Ask about the Medici princess who pushed her lovers down a shaft to land on spikes.
