If you have the chance to go to Ustica and to dive there, you shouldn’t miss Altamarea Diving. Mauro and his team will welcome you on a very comfortable boat fully equipped with all the diving stuff you would need to rent, as well as a relaxing deck for sunbath during breaks between dives. All the team is very experienced and will take you in unforgettable diving spots, including rocks, caves, and wonderful fishes. Fun, friends, good mood and professionalisms will be what will make an unforgettable diving vacation with the lovely Italian style touch.

I went alone to Ustica do complete my scuba diver certificate, and lucky me, I met someone at the ferry to Ustica who connected me with Mauro. Mauro and his staff welcome me even though it was my first dive ever in open water. I was surrounded by professional divers, and at any minute I felt less important. Mirko, my instructor, was amazing. Thanks, Altamarea for helping me to accomplish a dream of scuba diving.

Altamarea Diving is an incredible dive center located on the paradisiac island of Ustica, in Sicilia. On the island, there is a lot of dive centers, and two types of them. On one side there are the boats with 6 to 12 scubadivers leaving every morning and afternoon, and on the other side there is... Altamarea, runned by Mauro, who is an excellent professional. He always does whatever is possible for his hosts : different dives every day, tailored programs. The team working with him is very experienced : Mirko, Antonnella... and her sister, who cooks delicious pastas and salads to lunch on the boat. We had an entire week with them on Nanù - the boat’s name - from 9 a.m to 5 p.m and... it wasn’t enough. I wish we would have more time there. We’ll be back for sure ! Thanks again for all everybody !

We have friends in Palermo and decided to spend a week in Ustica. The laid back feel of the beautiful island was wonderful for a break from our busy lives. There isn't that much to do on the island, but for us that was perfect. We spent each day on the boat, taking lunch aboard and ate out at quaint local restaurants in the evenings. Now for the diving : Mauro has owned and operated Altamarea diving for 20yrs. The boat "Nanu" is comfortable and the best on the island. The alternative is to take a dingy back and forth, with land breaks between. Aboard Nanu there are 2 relaxed paced dives - one before lunch and one after lunch. The dive boat doesn't have a large gearing up area, so the divers leave in waves. It takes some time to get all the gear (some is stored up front) and because the water has as much as 20 degree thermoclines, a 5 mil and hood (some wore 7 mil, one even a drysuit) are essential. Much of what you see is volcanic, though now that the water is getting warmer (global warming) there are some colorful corals growing on the underside of many rocks. There are also large areas of grassy seabeds, which I had never encountered previously. What you will see: schools of barracuda, jacks (some), octopus (which was accosted by the divers in one case), nudibranchs, large groupers, bream, lobsters, cicadas, yellowtail tuna and jellyfish. The divemasters were professional and helpful. My husband (who is fluent in Italian and German) and I enjoyed the meals and camaraderie aboard, though he had an easier time holding conversations than I did. The only turtle we saw was a little one brought over from another boat.(yes, they had taken it out of the water to show us...ugh) At one point, someone took an octopus out of the water as well. These types of actions I had not seen before and did not appreciate. There are caves (caverns really) and I found some fabulous anemone crabs, shrimp and other small critters. The days were beautiful but I'm usually up for more diving. However, 2 dives a day for a week was relaxing and we came home refreshed. Mauro and crew kept us safe, happy and well fed. Bellissimo!
