A city filled with history and very nicely maintained. Very nice markers telling you what you are looking at. The city is very clean and well laid out.

Most pleasant visit, walked around quite a bit - Old railway station and its neighborhood with Cuban influence, downtown Carey and 14th streets with iron works and the Urban Farmhouse Market (Café) with its simple but good fare and great coffee, very nice science museum ($ 14.00) that has lots of stuff for kids to do, its cleverly-named "Periodic Table"... I found this completely by accident while walking around. You get to the pipeline via the path next to the river near "The locks". Google "Pipeline Outlook Richmond Va" for a map. To get on and off the pipeline you need to be able to climb a 4m high vertical ladder. Also not recommended for young kids unless you tie... More

Over the years, my wife and I have observed the James River from many places...from historic Jamestown, from Shirley and Berkeley plantations, on the bluffs along Route 15 driving into Richmond from the south and from Hollywood Cemetery on the west side of the city. Take it from us, the view from Hollywood Cemetery, from the spot where Jefferson Davis... More

Walks, bike riding or walking are the best way to enjoy our river. Although kayaking and white water rafting are enjoyed by many along with fishing. Great way to see the city and enjoy nature.

Our family visited Belle Isle via walking on the walk bridge under US 1 and it was a wonderful experience. If you live anywhere close to the James River you need to do this.
