We stayed in the Residence Inn in Shock Slip and so many things were in walking distance including Tredegar Iron Works, Hollywood Cemetery, the VA capital building, the canal boat ride, and Belle Isle. We loved it! The cobble stone streets are amazing all on their own.

This area is undergoing gentrification and the addition of new restaurants. Looks like it can evolve into a date night and after work destination. There are many empty spaces that may fill up to fulfill this goal.

If you want to go on a date and you do not have a plan or a place to go you can always make a great night by heading down to Shockoe Slip. There are so many bars and restaurants that you really do not need reservations unless its a special holiday like Christmas or Valentines day. Go bar hopping... More

Nice restaurant district with historic buildings and cobblestone streets. Only a few blocks from Capitol. Nice Irish bar, newish Mexican restaurant (Mijas) that had excellent Queso Fundido, and the Tobacco Warehouse with a great atrium. Only a few blocks to canal walk, so easy to walk to Shocktoe from Belle Island.

Not a large area to explore but offers an opportunity to see Richmond's old warehouse near the James River, Unique shops and restaurants to explore.

We spent the night in Shock Slip at the fabulous Berkeley Hotel. Hoping to get a nice dinner and window shop we took a walk around, but the area at night is very empty and a little creepy! Restaurants were mostly empty and everything else was closed. Busiest restaurant was Buffalo Wild Wings (sad commentary!) Just past BWW there was... More

The waterfront area is known as Shockoe, from an Indian word. Slip is associated with this area because the boats came here. It has a lot of buildings with architecture to be admired and a lot of history.
