Step back in time in Atlanta's most tangible link to the past, Oakland Cemetery. This historical park is the final resting place for many Civil War soldiers, golfing legend Bobby Jones, and "Gone With the Wind" author Margaret Mitchell.

What a spectacular event in a beautiful fall afternoon!!! This was a very well organized event by the Oakland Historical Foundation. Very interesting to walk among the tombstones from the civil war. The history is pretty amazing as to how bodies were relocated and that segregation was so strong even the dead were separated. Some of the mausoleums were very ornate and the sculptures are beautiful.

The Oakland Cemetery is an impressive way to see Southern history. In a beautiful setting, you can see the crypts of famous families and civic leaders. I recommend seeing the cemetery and city skyline from nearby Six Feet Under brewpub!

I actually found the grounds to be very uneven so I recommend sneakers, but if you stay on just the paved areas, then sandals.
