About
The Castle of Lorca is the hallmark of the city, symbol of power and the incessant struggle between the Nasrid kingdom of Granada and the Crown of Castile. The castle-fortress is a place where history is lived first hand through exhibitions, workshops for the whole family, guided tours and extraordinary activities throughout the year. In this space, Ben Sakar (the Hawk's Son), the virtual mascot of the castle will show you scenarios as emblematic as the walls, the stables, the cisterns, the Tower of the Spur, the Tower Alfonsina or the Jewish Synagogue.

What a fantastic place! Totally dog-friendly, we even got a bandana and dog treats on the way in! Free to walk around the extensive and beautiful grounds of the castle. We didn't have time to go into the other areas (only open at certain times) but were told they were also dog-friendly. Stunning views as well, and lovely people on site. Top class.

Had a great ½ day out, paid to visit both towers and Jewish sector, although you can visit the grounds free of charge.
Learned a lot from our visit, the staff are knowledgeable and the grounds are well kept.
We had something to eat in the restaurant for lunch, we were surprised how good the food was and how cheap considering they have a captive audience.
Pleased we went to visit as we usually only see it from the A7.

I made a special trip to see this site. Don’t know where I got the information that was worth the trouble. Went to the restaurant and the menu was so uninteresting and expensive we left

Lorca castle is a great day out for walking and experience historic ruins. Take your phone so that you can scan the QR code which tells you all about the history of the castle and updates you at numbered markers.

You are allowed to take your pet dogs although must be kept on lead. The tariff system is good for all visitors, we experienced the full ticket of 10 euros, which allowed you to go anywhere and in the towers, the archeological dig, the gardens etc….but you can go in for free to walk around the grounds and gardens.

The cafe/grill was clean, serving tapas and a small menu, we went for the chicken and chips ideal for a lunch out. Seating is inside and out and plenty of it.

The staff were very friendly, courteous and informative, speaking some English.

Would not recommend for disabled people, quite step in places. Definitely recommend for a day out and take plenty of pictures.

The towers were still closed because of the covid-19. There was not much to see.
The restaurant was a rude dissapointment. We were waiting for a table to have a lunch for more than half an hour and yet two spanish speaking groups could get the table but not us because we could not speak as good spanish. We left with out eating. So if the restaurant is full and you are not spanish speaking don't bother.

The sole mountaintop both commands and isolates in an arid area thus why the ruins are largely cisterns.

The tower is not as big as it looks but the position is even more commanding. A hotel below the tower adds to the complex. Tours inside the tower were highly limited due to covid and we did not go inside.

The various exhibits give a fair representation of the life of the elite atop the mountain without mentioning that it was elite. Strange.

The synagogue is highly overblown--merely a small foundation ruin among others inside a splashy space befitting of something truly interesting.

Our lunch at the site was excellent.

We left our vehicle at the hotel down in town and elected to walk up through the town to the castle. This took around 40 minutes and gave us an appreciation of the town and great views of the surrounding countryside. We paid the 6 euros entry to the general area of the castle and spent an enjoyable couple of hours with an audio guide understanding the fabric and history of the castle. We chose to leave the archaeological dig and synagogue areas for another visit. We had a coffee at the cafe then wandered back down into town to eat.
