Dating back to the Civil War in Spain, linking two parts of the city and used in 1937 1938 to protect civilians in the bombing of aviation La Pava. Free to walk through. However, not open all the time (Opens 7.00am and closes between 10pm and midnight, depending on the month during the year). These are several interesting notice boards providing some history of the tunnel in English and Spanish. A car park is located at one end, while the other brings you out to main street (Pedestrian) areas.

We just chanced upon it and seeing a hole and being nosy off I shot. Although underground like it was open both ends so good. To think people huddled together for safety from their own people was sad. The chunky metal inside added texture and we could read info in English. All for free and introduced us to a totally new area and a street food market which was impressive.

We stumbled upon this by accident after reading about it and we are glad we did. Created as a haven for people during the Spanish Civil War, it links the centre church area of the town with the marina. It has been reinforced so it won't collapse and is worth the short walk through to imagine the history involved

Walking through the Castle Tunnel, linking the north part of Denia to the town centre, is an experience in itself!

In the past most tourists missed this as it was in the past historic years!
Now With health & safety it has been reformed with supporting steel slats, and a stone catching net.
It joins Las Marinas rubs to the Denia city, Town hall, Church area.
Often filled with buskers music which is worth a coin or two, their sound carries well.

Cut during the Spanish civil war as a safe haven from the bombing this cool passage is worth a visit even if not wanting to take a short cut to the Mercadona supermarket. Interesting artistic internsl steel frames.

This pedestrian tunnel is a godsend if you want to get to the other side of the castle mound as it cuts straight through beneath the castle.

The tunnel cuts under the castle and provides a cool shortcut between two halves of the town. It was also whether people sheltered during the civil war. It’s difficult now to picture how fractured Spain was then.
