Every time I go to the Black Hills, it's almost vital to stop at Mt. Rushmore. Looking at the faces every time may get boring, but the Presidential Trail never does. There is always something different when you walk around it. You get up close to the monument. Get a little lost. And get a lot of exercise. The last... More

I wanted to take the Presidential Trail while visiting Mt. Rushmore. If you take the entire look you will have to climb a couple of hundred stairs and may have to rest. It is worth the hike! You get up close and personal with these four presidents and there are many super photo opportunities!

A must-walk to see the presidents up close and to learn about their life. I advise to talk the walk going left, so you pass the presidents first. This way the stairs aren't that hard, because you mostly go down hill. It can be extremely hot so bring lots of water and a hat.

great hike, really cool to see the stone that was blown out by all they dynamite. The stones have honey combed drill marks where they placed the dynamite inside. Pretty cool. Hike is average IMHO, most anyone could do it.

This trail takes you right too the bottom of the scree field of rocks blasted from the mountain to create the sculptures. Nice alcoves with history of the Presidents. Visited in late October so we had minimal crowds, but I can imagine it being full of people during the summer. Do it if you can!

It was short trail that brought us closer to the monument and gave us different views of the sculptures. It was a pleasant and enjoyable stroll and gave us the opportunity to appreciate the monument.

You have to go on the trail when you visit the memorial. Its only a half mile trail so its absolutely little kid friendly. You get some amazing views of Rushmore at different angles.

I loved the Presidential Trail. It was more strenuous that I had expected. We went to the left since we had heard it was the easiest for my husband's bad knees. But by the time we made it all the way through, we were pooped! I don't regret it, but hubby's knees probably do!

In the year celebrating National Parks 100th birthday, it was mandatory to go visit the "mother" of US national monuments. I was excited to finally see the four presidents after a two day drive from Kansas (and of course the overseas trip from Germany before that). 10$ admission fee for parking the car, being valid for a whole year. (with... More
