Muir Woods has a rich and varied history, from its use by the Coast Miwok people, to its early days of tourism and the Mount Tamalpais Mill Valley Scenic Railway, to an era of conservation, to modern preservation. In each era, the forest has been affected by the actions of humans, for better or for worse. Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, this coastal redwood preserve features majestic redwoods and scenic hiking trails that draw more than 1.5 million visitors each year.

If you want to see Redwoods near San Francisco, this is the place to go! The trails were very well maintained and well laid out. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and so lush. Parking lots were all full and it was quite busy with tourists at first, but once on the trails it didn't feel busy at all. Overall very... More

If your in the area and have never had the chance to see theses trees take the time to go. Granted there trees, but the sheer size of these things are amazing. If you are going to drive up its only about a 20 min drive from San Francisco but get there early because parking is extremely limited.

Muir Woods is absolutely a majestic place to view some of the most magnificent trees in nature. If you can get away from the people who want to talk their way through it, you will find that it is so peaceful. If you can, take the hillside trail and look down on the trails and landscape below. Parking can be... More

This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places to visit and a great place for all ages. There are two main trails for tourists to hike with many more challenging offshoot trails for more serious hikers. The kids will love the higher trail along the ridge. The lower trail is gorgeous and definitely doable for strollers and wheelchairs... More

You can't visit San Francisco without visiting Muir Woods. The giant sequoia trees more than 2000 years old and the lush vegetation cross crossed with little streams make for a perfect outing. However, during the visit it was raining which made it uncomfortable. The entrance of $ 10 was worth the price for such a gorgeous place. If you have... More

Such a serene and breath taking place. Went there solo, worried I would be bored. I was wrong. Totally fascinating and relaxing. A beautiful place to stroll around, see hundreds, thousands of years of nature at its most amazing.

Amazing redwood forest only minutes from San Francisco. Interesting tour information on the history which could of been stronger on e background to why national parks were created. Good cafe with local produce but gift shop could be more imaginative.

Muir Woods seems to be everything John Muir would want in a NPS site, but it's so busy it loses any sense of tranquility. It may take you longer to find a parking spot and walk to the site than actually see the site itself. We returned right at opening on a Saturday and still had to park in an... More

Muir Woods was just that. Woods without any information. The trails are poorly marked. We went on the Fern Trail and got lost for an hour! When we told the person at the information center, he really didn't care. He told us "people come out here to get lost in the woods." You need to mark your trails better. Also,... More

I almost didn't drive up to see it. And even getting a flat on the way this place was still worth it. Very beautiful. I just wished I had many more hours to visit.
