Overview
More
Recognized as an architectural masterpiece among Catholic churches in the south, it is the spiritual home of a vibrant St. Mary Catholic community today. The construction of this place of worship was begun in 1842 as the Cathedral of the newly established Diocese of Natchez. The St. Mary congregation takes pride in the basilica's colorful and prayerful setting, and welcomes visitors from near and distant places. The city of Natchez, on the Mississippi River and the birthplace of Mississippi, is a tourist destination because of its historic ante-bellum homes. St. Mary Basilica, also ante-bellum, is the city's central landmark.

This Basillaca is breath takingly beautiful. The craftsmanship, stained glass windows, and the statuary rivals European cathedrals. The photograph does not capture the scope of it's size. Tour all the antebellum mansions you can, but don't miss the Basillica!

Smaller than expected, but beautiful nonetheless. Worth a visit for Mass or just to look around or to say a prayer.

This is worth stepping into. The colors and soaring ceiling are stunning. It will remind you of Europe and old beauty there.

The altar area is all marble. This church is beautiful on the level of European churches. There was a woman from the church explaining things when we walked in randomly on a weekday.
