N 1858, Frederick Stanton built the home of his dreams for his family on his new property - an entire city block of Natchez, Mississippi. The city block cost about $1,550. The house cost over $83,000 before it was even furnished. Carrera Marble, mahogany doors 2 1/2 inches thick, candeliers from France, and Italian statuary appointed the interior. Huge Corinthian columns and granite steps adorned the facade. Stanton came to America with his brothers in 1815. He made a fortune as a cotton broker, then as owner of more than 16,000 acres of cotton plantations. Ironically, he lived only one month after his dream home was finished. ...Now inside view of the Carriage House Restaurant Stanton Hall housed a college for young ladies for a short time, then fell into dissarray to some extent before the Pilgrimage Garden Club renewed the antebellum mansion to much of its former glory. It stands today, filled with original and like antique furnishings as Frederick originally created it, a showcase for the world to see. Daily tours are given of the home, and during Spring and Fall Pilgrimages hostesses dress in antebellum costume to greet the throngs of visitors. After the tour, many stop to have lunch at the adjacent Carriage House Restaurant, which is nationally famous for its fine Southern cuisine. Stanton Hall is listed as an official National Historic Landmark.

Located in Natchez this is the grandest of the antebellum homes. The tour was fascinating and interiors beautiful. No photos permitted in the house so can only show you the exterior, oh and cute little gift shop attached.

The house itself is beautiful, in the middle of Natchez. Important detail: the filming of Orry Main's bedroom(Patrick Swayze in North & South) took place here! The tickets were quite expensive(20 dollars) for such a short tour and no pictures were allowed. The people were...More

The adult ticket price of $18 gets you a 30-45 minute tour of the first and second floors. The guide pointed out furniture/fixtures that were original or contemporaneous to the house. For me, it would be an improvement to better link the house and furnishings...More

Loved the guided tour! Tours start every half hour and on the hour. Guide was very knowledgeable about the home, history of the pieces in the home and the area. Definitely add to your must see in Natchez list!

Stanton Hall is a beautiful home, rich in history. I recommend seeing it but it is one of the most expensive homes in Natchez at $18 per person. We spent approximately 45 minutes on a guided tour.

Not as great others, as it is a bed and breakfast, too. Could only view a few rooms. There are others much better.

A trip to Natchez, Mississippi, to visit the many magnificent antebellum mansions open to tourists in this historic Mississippi River town wouldn't be complete without a tour of Stanton Hall. Located at 401 High Street in the heart of town, this Classical Revival house was...More

This house is another must see in Natchez. It takes up an entire city block. The front door is 12ft tall...you feel pretty small standing in front of it. The inside is simply beautiful and the tour guides are quite knowledgeable.

I have been to Natchez many times but had never actually toured Stanton Hall until my recent trip. Wonderful mansion and guide. They recently have gotten more of the original furnishings back which makes it even more special in my opinion.

We paid $15.00 for an adult ticket but we bought a package to see 3 estates so we saved a little. Bought tickets at the visitor center.
