We were unable to access the upper floors due to construction but what we did see was very informative , great look back in time !

Great history and there is a free audio tour where you enter a number and get detailed information on jail cells, escapes, daily routines of the prisoners etc

We really enjoyed this tour. The characters dressed in costume had great stories to tell and had a lot of knowledge about the history of the jail. An attraction worth going to.

Unfortunately the upstairs portion was not available to us however we still enjoyed the walk through history.

It might seem a bit gruesome to visit a jail but the Huron Historic Gaol puts a human face to the unfortunates who had to spend time there, including mistakes the judiciary made. Visitors can walk into the holding cells, exercise yards and work areas....More

The second floor was closed for upgrades. There is not a ton to see. But the audio tour gives you reason to pause in each room. The Victorian house was interesting.

I enjoyed the tour we took of the old gaol, and the stories told while we toured. It was interesting.

In the summer, visiting the Gaol is a treat. People dress up and learn the backstory of the typical historical figures who would have been in the Gaol from the inmates, the homeless, the administrator of the Gaol etc. It is like a living play...More
