In January, 2017, my husband and I spent two weeks birding through the southern part of Ecuador. Our guide was Marcelo Arias of Mindo, Ecuador. We had a very good trip. We saw many birds. I will not attempt to list them all but will mention a few at each location. We have found Marcelo to be an excellent bird... More

We arranged for Marcelo to be our driver and guide for several nights over Labor Day weekend. He picked us up at our hotel just west of Quito and drove us first to Yanacocha for a productive morning and then along the Ecoruta towards Mindo, where he demonstrated precise knowledge of where some birds could be found (we stopped the... I had a great time on my trip with Marcelo. He arrived exactly on time, he explained things to me slowly and patiently in Spanish (exactly what I wanted) and helped me see many amazing birds I would not have seen on my own. He also explained a bit about the history of the Mindo area and about the trees... More

I contacted Marcelo Arias in December 2015 to arrange a twelve-day birding trip in July 2016. The itinerary included seven days on the east slope of the Andes (Cabañas San Isidro, Wildsumaco Lodge and the Tena-Gareno Lodge area) and five days on the west slope based in Mindo (Rio Silanche, Mashpi-Amagusa, Bellavista, and sites for the umbrellabird and oilbird). Marcelo’s... More

First time ever for a bird watching day. Found him through trip advisor. Marcel makes the difference in our two days tour in bird watching. Despite we were together with a couple of super professional bird watchers he has been able to engaged with both levels. It's rare to see such high level motivation. Truly recommended.

Bird watching in Mindo was fabulous. I had a great time with Marcelo looking for birds In November 2015 :). He brought a telescope and binoculars and we went on a walking tour. He was professional, nice, and funny! He speaks English and Spanish. Highly recommended!

I'd never gone birdwatching with a guide before and this was a great first experience. Rough Guides recommended Marcelo and he was a truly excellent guide. He could spot birds from a mile away and knew all of the calls of the different species. He brought along a telescopic lens as well as binoculars. We saw several different species of... More

We arranged two days of birdwatching with Marcelo. I communicated with him during the six months before our trip with confirmations as to date and time and cost. When he met with us at the hotel he informed us that he took another job and would not be able to guide for us unless we went with the other couple.... More

By far Marcelo is the most experienced and pleasant bird watching tour guide I have encountered in my world wide birding experience. I highly recommend him for tours in Mindo and other areas of Ecuador.

We spent 3 days with Marcelo bird watching in and around Mindo. He is an excellent guide, able to spot birds we would otherwise never have seen. He knew the places to go to find them, used calls to bring them out into better view. We drove to most locations, then got out and did some hiking. The scope he used... More
