The Allman Brothers are buried here, Duane, Gregg and Barry Oakley the Bass player for the band. When you go thru the gates, turn left and the graves are on the left. This is a memorial for the band and those that have passed.

I guess Rose Hill goes back about as far as Macon. 1820s or so. Macon's history is laid out in one tantalizing tree-framed epitaph after another. The unexpected scale of the Confederate cemetery comes charging down the hill at you as you round a curve...More

We were here for Gregg Allman's funeral. Everyone was quiet and respectful, his fans shown nothing but love for him and his Allman Brothers Band mates Duane Allman and Berry Oakley. This place is hallowed ground and I cannot describe the feeling being in the...More

I was surprised at how unkept the cemetary was. We visited the Allman brothers site and drove around a little before leaving.

Very interesting cemetery. Very old tombstones. Many Civil War soldiers buried here. The roads can be tricky. We have a 250 truck and couldn't drive on some of the roads, too narrow. It is better to get out and walk around. You don't see headstones...More

I've been going by Rose Hill for years. It's the final resting ground of three of the Allman Brothers, and, with the late Gregory Allman buying 10 lots, it would be nice if Butch, Red Dog, and others were interred together. There's other locations as...More

I really dislike calling cemeteries attractions. Seems disrespectful to me but we do enjoy visiting these old cemeteries and this one is a little special I think. This is right in Macon and is very, very, old. The statues and old markers are fantastic. There...More

I was staying in Macon and came upon a brochure for places to visit. Rose Hill was close by so I wandered over. I was awed by the beauty and upkeep of this cemetery. To my surprise, it is also the final resting place of...More

Interesting area to visit and seeing many ancient and beautiful headstones and memorials. My aunt is buried there in one of the memorials that contain drawers.

Rose Hill is where The original (and best) Allman Brothers Band shot many of their promo photos, wrote songs based upon headstones, etc. In addition, Duane Allman, Berry Oakley and, now, Gregory Allman are all buried there alongside one another. The cemetery was established in...More

I don't believe that it's closed on the weekends. Perhaps it was just closed the weekend that you were there for some reason. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was open and many visitors were around. Maybe try it one... More
