We were fortunate to be in Salt Lake city on a Thursday night. That is when the Tabernacle Choir has their practice. It was something to experience. You get to see and hear all the hard work that the choir goes through every week. And you get to hear a fantastic choir.

Each Sunday the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs a 30 minute 'Music & The Spoken Word' which is broadcast live on TV and radio and recorded on YouTube a few weeks later. The live performance starts at 9.30 but you need to be there between 8.30 and 9.15 to get a seat. They are running through a rehearsal at that time... More

Even if you are not into religion or choirs ... the taberacle choir is an experience you cannot miss if you get an opportunity to hear them live on your visit to Salt Lake City Utah. Close your eyes and let the music take you somewhere else. Leave the world behind and just listen. It was one of the highlights... More

I took my Grandkids ages 7, 9, and 11 to hear the choir during their Sunday morning live broadcast. This is a free event. We sat up in the balcony close to where the children could see the instruments as well as the choir. They were thoroughly entranced. Not just by the music, which was amazing, but by the whole... We were so fortunate to be able to go listen to the free Thursday evening rehearsal of the choir. They go over parts and/or sections of a song, then sing the entire piece. Oh, what heavenly sound! ...and this is "only" a rehearsal. Interesting to note that the members receive the same corrections and suggestions from the director as our... More

I am not welcomed in the main church, but the choir practices in another church on the grounds. I went on a Thursday night and was filled with their beautiful music. I try to go every year I am in SLC. Do go, you won't be disappointed.

Thursday night rehearsals are free and open to the public. The choir is known throughout the world. There is also a tour that explains the acoustics of the Tabernacle where they perform.

There are many incredible choirs around the world, but the Mormon Tabernacle Choir brings a spirit and feeling that is incomparable. The music and words create an experience never to be forgotten. If you are in Salt Lake City on a Sunday morning, visit the choir broadcast at 9:30 AM. It is the world's longest continuing running radio broadcast.

Our visit was Sunday morning for Music and the Spoken Word. The morning is broken into three thirty minute sessions. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., the musicians go through a dress rehearsal to determine exact timing for the live performance. At 9:00 a.m., the musicians go on break while a speaker provides a history and overview of the choir, the entry... More
