I've visited most of the zoos in Tx and while Gladys Porter isn't the largest, it has a very fine assortment of animals that appear well taken care of, even some different ones that I haven't seen before. What I especially liked was the trees and plants that were incorporated around the animals. The bougainvilleas were fantastic!

This zoo offers a great variety of animals. The concession stands offer good food. The gift shops are very nice. They keep working on making it better.

This was reasonably priced plus we had a discount coupon as well. Lots to see best to go in warm weather though more animals out, lots of giraffes , love the touch pools and sting rays! Definitely recommend! Visitor center is right next to the zoo also to find more things to do and see in the area!

A small zoo with a large variety of animals some not seen in other large zoos. Grounds are well kept and it is designed in an easy walking loop. As a birder also saw a lot of wildlife in the trees on the property also. A double pleasure. If you want to go to a great zoo this is it.... More

Very surprised to find such a nice zoo in Brownsville. I love how this zoo is basically barless and you can get up close and personal with most of the animals. The zoo keepers are also very friendly , accommodating and knowledgeable about the animals they are in care of. Beware, This place is also a lot bigger than you... More

We had visited this zoo a number of years ago and remembered being impressed. A recent visit did not disappoint. It's a smaller zoo than many but the exhibits are very nice. The grounds are well kept and there are some very unique animals on display. This facility has a number of endangered species that they are working with so... More

The zoo has so much to offer, day and night. Ask about the special tours and events you and your kids will love! Don't have kids? Not a problem....strolling through the lush gardens and the animals in their native habitats is relaxing and enjoyable. There are stations among the trails that offer food and beverages. My family has enjoyed this... More

I love to have the experience to get to feed the giraffes...there is a fee and certain hours you can feed them but it is worth having the giraffes up close.

All zoos are different but what I really found very enjoyable the gracious behavior of the gorillas. They had several in the exhibit and they were all doing different. things. The monkey are as gracious too. Every thing was very enjoyable.

This was a wonderful afternoon out with hubby and the 2 boys. We sent the boys (ages 10 and 12) off on one path and said we'd meet them at the entrance or somewhere along the path. Well, after 2 hours of seeing 50% of the zoo, we thought we'd better find the kids. We found them about to starve... More
