I will agree with other reviews...this is one of the best museum experiences I can remember. My husband is very interested in Civil War history, and I love any history, so I researched a lot online before our weekend visit to Richmond to maximize our weekend visit. We started at the NPS Petersburg National Battlefield, and it was fine. But... More

We've been twice -- even bought a membership! Relaxing, informative with both inside and outside exhibits. Enjoyed following the lives of civil war soldiers and hearing personal stories of their lives.

This park is incredible. It strives to give you all of the narratives and not just one side or the other. The Union, Confederates, enslaved, free, and civilians are all treated with the utmost respect, that is not done in most other museums. It's quite a unique place, with living history in a truly historic setting, the actual site of... More

Thank you for the review. A visit can take all day - most of our guests require around four hours to visit our museums, historic homes, and battlefield exhibits. We recommend that you bring comfortable shoes and a curious spirit as you walk in the footsteps of the men and women that lived through one of the most turbulent times... More

Pamplin Park is a privately run museum devoted to recording the history of the Civil War in Central Virginia. It has 2 museums, a working Civil War era farm and home, and sections of preserved battlefield. The main museum has a really nice audio tour that is included with your admission fee. Definitely the best Civil War site and museum... More

Thank you very much! We do cover the Civil War in Central Virginia, plus we focus on the Petersburg Campaigns (sometimes called the Siege of Petersburg). Specifically, we tell the story of The Breakthrough Battle of April 2, 1865, which happened on our property. Our battlefield was where Union forces overran the Confederate defenses of Petersburg. This event triggered the... More

Spent several hours here on a beautiful October day. Enjoyed a ranger led tour of the Breakthrough battlefield trail. Very informative. Ranger was well spoken. All staff were informative and friendly. Very good audio tour at no extra charge of all areas - battlefield, Tudor Hall and museum. Spent 4 1/2 hours and could've spent more. Recommend for Civil War... More

Thank you so much for your review. What you didn't mention is how the audio tours are tied to our Duty Called Me Here exhibit, located inside The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier. Here, visitors choose from among a dozen real Civil War soldiers, then follow that soldier's story through letters and correspondence throughout the war. It's a... More

The Civil War museum was so interesting - I must admit, when my friends said we were going, I wasn't too thrilled. But step inside, and I was enthralled by all of the exhibits and the outside areas are beautiful as well. Both adults and children will find this experience very worthwhile - being able to pick a soldier at... More

This private Civil War museum, located near Petersburg is a must see! Plan on spending the day. It is a work of love by the creators. A plantation owned by their ancestors is the base of the museum. It is faithfully restored and recreated. What makes it special is that it not only exhibits the plantation house, but also the... More

Thank you for the thorough review - you've pretty much covered everything! The film, "War So Terrible," is a PG-13 depiction of the harsh realities of a the life of the common soldiers during the Civil War. There is a judiciously edited version available for school groups, younger audiences, or anyone that simply prefers the story without as much violence.... More

We had been told not to miss Pamplin Park, but had limited expectations. Exhibits are very informative, well executed. The way you can follow different themes meant that each if the four of us were free to enjoy it in our own way.
