Nice walk

My 3 year old, myself along with our two dogs love to take walks along the trails. Great spot to just get out and take a walk and learn about the history of this town!

We stopped at this historic civil war battlefield this afternoon. The short video had begun as we were walking in the building. Caution: graphic scenes in the video if you have young children. The museum was filled with artifacts as you explored the exhibits. Gift shop was full of items if you are a history collector.

While there isn't much to see as far as battlefields go, it is a beautiful park. The battles are well documented throughout the park. The visitor center is small but informative and the video is well done. Everything is clean too. While I enjoyed the visit it's nothing compared to other sites, the park like experience is the draw.

The Visitors Center offers a 20 minute film and a small museum which offers thought provoking exhibits. There is a very nice, mostly shaded, half mile paved trail that originates along side of the VC. There are placards along the way that are well done. There are two auto tour routes; the Eastern Front and Western Front. Stops are described... More

The sites are very well marked and allow a lot of quiet walking and contemplation. I especially enjoyed the audio presentations on some of the marked sites. The reconstruction of the trenches and some of the buildings and shelters was very interesting, as well. I liked the monument to the soldiers of color...and the recognition of the role that they... Great history trip or Civil war buff. I grew up near the battlefield, close to Fort Lee, VA an Army base. Beautiful ride and such history. Great place if you are visiting and want a relaxing, lesson in Civil War history.

Being that I have lived in this area and travel here for work I see the battlefield all the time. If you can speak with a park ranger they can give you great information about the area. The battlefield has more history than some of the major battles of the civil war because it last months as a siege. Great... More

A lot to see and drive regarding the civil war. The Crater Park has an amazing history and is not the only park to see.
