Our lovely city is so fortunate to have acquired this venue & the renovations made to this former home have made for an excellent visitors center. The space, interior & exterior, are always a delight to visit. Be sure to check out the beautiful artwork, especially the photography that highlights various Open Space locations, as it brilliantly captures the sense... More

We stopped here on our way through Albuquerque. It is on the small side but admission is free. The grounds are wonderfully kept and the restroom was spotless. The displays are well done. There is door next to the restrooms that says something like “stairs to tower”. We asked if it was accessible to visitors and were given the go-ahead.... More

The Open Space Center out on West Mesa is a lovely place in itself, with beautiful small gardens and patios, and an observation tower. Numerous presentations and workshops are scheduled here; it 's a fine place to just relax and learn about the some 29,000 acres of open space in the city limits. A very special corner of the city.

I always visit the Open Space. This time we were treated to Canada geese and Sandhill cranes. This is not just one facility. There are a few scattered on either side of the river. Nice hike/run/bike trails are adjacent. I enjoy running along the Bosque to see all the wildlife. If you're not in the mood to walk, bring a... More

Such a LOVELY facility and surroundings, you'd never know you're just off Coors Blvd.because you feel a world away. Stumbled upon this place one rainy afternoon while out with my little grandson who needed a place to stretch his little legs and explore. We both loved it. The children's area had plenty to keep a 1 year old entertained (and... More

Spent part of a Sunday afternoon visiting this space - mostly to take in part of the annual crane migration. There were many birds - including cranes and Canadian Geese that were feeding in the open field and other than birds squawking (which I love) it was quiet and I had some time to myself. The gallery inside was lovely... More

The Open Space Visitor Center is open Tuesday-Sunday year round. Inside, one will find an art gallery with changing exhibits, dioramas and murals depicting and explaining the settlement of this area, artifacts, scenic views, a gift shop, and helpful, eager volunteers. At this time of year, sandhill cranes are a big draw and can be seen munching along with geese... More

Who would have thought that beavers and porcupines could thrive on the edge of modern subdivisions? On the 2 1/2-hour bosque (Spanish for "woods") nature hike held the first Sunday of every month and starting at the Open Space Visitor Center at 9 a.m., volunteer naturalist Verne Huser showed us trees that beavers had gnawed to access the (to them)...
