Thrilled to find Avon Cinema as the only local venue for a documentary been wanting to see (The Eagle Huntress). First visit. Found it to be an old time cinema that has not been updated with wide screen or major speaker systems. The seats appear to have been around for a long time as the seat bottom cushion was not... It is great to have this gem in town that gets the unique movies and is such a great experience. I end up here multiple times a month and enjoy the experience every time. It's a good idea to get their cinema ticket which allows a reduced price for each movie.

Stepping into this theatre is like dating in the fifties. Very well maintained, good acoustics, friendly personnel, nice assortment of goodies. A nostalgic and fun experience. Highly recommended.

One of the oldest theatres in our city. Nostalgic and quaint offering great films not seen at typical cinema's. Right on Thayer Street so there's lots to do nearby. Fantastic Indian restaurant across the street.

The times I've gone to the Cinema were when there were either shadowcasts of older films (Rocky Horror Picture) or newer niche films (Repo: The Genetic Opera). I don't know if Avon would succeed in a different area or on another street, but something about it being the center of Thayer Street gives it a soul that makes it very... More

As a student at Brown in the late 50s, I spent a lot of time in this wonderful theatre. Some of my favorite movies there were: "Diabolique" (I jumped out of my seat at the bathtub scene), "Wild Strawberries" and "The Seventh Seal" (early Bergman), and of course, my favorite, "And God Created Woman" (Brigette Bardot - 'nuf said). Happily,... More

The Avon is well-respected in this area and always has interesting movies to show, usually Avant Garde-types. Prices are reasonable. Can't say the seating is comfortable as the decor is old, but that's what gives this cinema its charm.

I saw a showing of Midnight in Paris with a close friend of mine here and never would have guessed what it would be like inside. The decor is awesome, the seats are comfy, the ticketing counter employees are friendly and wiling to answer any questions. This movie was not showing anywhere else so I had no choice but to... I love this beautifully restored old theatre in the heart of College Hill in Providence. The movie selections are always great, and it says feels good to support a local business that isn't a chain. In fact, the owner is often at the door greeting people.
