A National Historic Landmark, Lippitt House has one of the best preserved Victorian interiors in America featuring elaborate painted finishes, ornate woodwork, and original furnishings. A 45-minute guided tour highlights the museum’s art and architecture and lets visitors step into Providence's Golden Age through stories of the Lippitt family and the domestic servants who lived and worked there. Built for textile magnate and Rhode Island Governor Henry Lippitt, the house was lived in by four generations of the Lippitt family until it was donated to Preserve Rhode Island in 1981. Museum Hours, May through October: Fridays at 1:00 pm -5:00 pm 3rd Saturdays at 10:00 am -2:00 pm Choose how to experience Lippitt House Museum. Take a guided tour at the top of each hour or experience the house at your own pace with a self-guided tour. Try hands-on activities in the Lippitt Lab to learn more about Victorian life. It was great to be able to see the house and its furnishings as it was, and not "restored." The tour person was very knowledgeable and made the place come alive. A very good experience, highly recommend.

If you are a lover historical architecture, do not mess checking out this mansion. The inlaid floors, hand painted walls and carved woodwork are masterful. To me this was more interesting than the actual history of the house.
