WOW! What a view of the water! The gardens are beautiful and you can use a free app for your phone to explain parts of the tour. The birth home of Nathaniel Hawthorne is part of the garden tour and the guide in the exhibit...More

I'm not usually into historical houses but this was actually surprisingly great. Great to see the house and well researched and delivered tour. Totally enjoyed it. One of the best places in Salem. Didn't know anything about the book but still so glad I went.

My wife and I visited The House of the Seven Gables and enjoyed the tour. The house is amazing and I would recommend this to any history buff. Enjoy.

Fair warning: I'm a fan of the Scarlet Letter, so all of those who begrudgingly read it in high school and have since chosen to forget about Hawthorne, you may not appreciate this attraction. First of all the grounds of the house are wonderfully kept....More

Best place to visit historically in Salem! Even if you are unaware of the history of Nathaniel Hawthorne it is still extremely interesting and if you are a fan of Hawthorne it is even more of a treat!!!

No reservations are required, but you should call ahead to find out the schedule for the tours.
Is the Spirits of the Gables Tour appropriate for children ages 9-13?

Sorry for the very delayed response. Yes--the tour is appropriate. The guided tour takes 35-40 minutes and there is a lot to see and do on property. It's a great way to enhance your trip to Salem.
