I've passed by this place many times and saw the plaque stating Old Ursulail Academy. It was set up years and years ago by Ursulain sisters and still has a beautiful chapel. Today it's a functioning art school, The Southwest School of Art. So in we went and took a tour. Very interesting. Almost wanted to take a course. Right... More

I came in from California, for two classes back to back in Faux Bois Ferro cement sculpture and Advanced; 8 days altogether. The school is well equipped and the staff great. The visiting instructor was great. A juried exhibit of student work had interesting work in it. I have taken classes at several other schools of art and this is... More

The Southwest School of Art is easily accessible from the River Walk and is close to the San Antonio Central Library, which is also worth a visit. While there are not a huge number of works on display, they are interesting. So are the rooms where classes are being conducted; they make one want to enrol!

The grounds and historic buildings of the SSA have such unique charm. To visit the museum, to have lunch at the Copper Kitchen, to discover an art class that interests you or to appreciate the new opportunity to earn a BFA, the SSA is a gem in central San Antonio.

I went to both galleries of art that were on display by featured artists. The docent was such a pleasant and kind lady! There were also a few campus cats that were just as friendly. I enjoyed a quick stop here and look forward to future exhibitions.

This was a quick stop in, so let me begin by saying the restaurant smelled amazing, but didn't get to eat there. This school is in an old convent which has been repurposed. Yeah for saving old buildings. We toured the grounds in addition to visiting the galleries. Most work of the young artists is available for sale. And it... More

Very diverse selection of adult classes, with really knowledgeable instructors and great facilities. The ceramics clay department is wonderful with great clay and glaze labs.

My wife and I were given a tour of the facilities by my cousin's husband (Steve)who works here. One could spend hours here heading into various galleries. If you want to see looms, this is the place to visit. The restaurant meal was also excellent. It certainly made our day complete. As a photographer teacher, if I lived in San... More

This school was founded in the 1800s by Catholic nuns. A video, which is shown in the welcome center room of the museum, is well done and very informative. The grounds are quiet and charming. There is also a very nice little restaurant. I enjoyed the walk from the RiverWalk to the museum. It was about a half hour leisurely... More

First of all, it's called Southwest School of Art. Period. No craft any more. They are going to become an accredited art school in 2014. They have classes in almost any medium, 2D, ceramics, photography, fabrics, paper making, metals, more. The gift shop has closed. The Copper Kitchen restaurant is very good.
