The Menger Bar is connected to the Menger hotel. It was built in 1887. There is so much history posted around the bar in the form of not only photos but also in the decor. The walls and ceiling are beautiful cherry wood. It was built as an exact replica of London’s House of Lords Pub. This is also the... More

The Menger Bar is a bit of history to visit. The bar is small, but beautifully created of stained wood and mirrors. The reason for our disappointment is because of the disrespect for its history and lack of decorum from visitors. Music was awful and blaring. Tourists with children wearing tacky attire and being loud ruined our experience. I expect... More

I agree with other reviewers. The history of The Menger Bar/Hotel was fascinating. One of the ladies at the front desk indulged us with stories from previous guest regarding sitings (ask for the print out of stories). She then led us to the hallway near check-in desk to share a crazy story and photo of a ghost. Just pass check-in... More

We were looking for a place to have drinks with our friends. The Menger Bar turned out to be perfect. It has a nice atmosphere and is not too loud. This is a place that Teddy Roosevelt recruited some of his men for the Rough Riders. There are displays with some memorabilia of him and these times in the bar... More

The history alone for the Menger Bar was enough to draw us there. Friendly folks and the service was great! Make sure to make time to explore the hotel as well for a historical tour well worth your time.

Little bar inside the Menger. Full of Teddy Roosevelt and rough ride memorabilia. Beautiful decor, good drinks and limited food menu. Close to the Alamo its a fun place to stop in for a drink.

This place had a lot of cool history to it. Very dark inside, but a neat ambience. We ate lunch here and had the bacon burgers and Rueben. The food was good.. large portions. It was slower when we went in around 330 pm and started picking up an hour later. The bar tenders were also serving the tables downstairs.... More

We just had to have lunch and a drink in this very historic bar very close to the Alamo. Lots of history involving Teddy Roosevelt. It's a neat bar and the bartender makes a delicious Bloody Mary. There is a small bar menu which suited us fine and the food was very good.

The Menger Bar is located on the first floor of The Menger Hotel. The story says that Theodore Roosevelt recruited soldiers here to fight in The Spanish American War. The bar is actually fairly small with several tables and a bar with only a few barstools. They have some bar food available but surprisingly no draft beer only bottles.

The only must drink at bar in San Antonio. The stories in this place are amazing, from Teddy Roosevelt playing a shooting game in the bar to all our Texas heroes. Step back into history and toast the Republic of Texas!!
