Ft Sam Houston is a US Army Base. As such if you are not active military, retired military or a guest, you will need to be checked out by the security folks in charge of access to grant you passes. Ensure you have a government...More

As a Government Contractor I was able to get access to the base and had business to do with Security Forces. Not sure how easy it would be to get on base otherwise. I have been to Fort Sam many times over the years and...More

We enjoyed hearing about the history...that part was good. The ID check to get into the complex was unpleasant-- we were treated like military/criminals. The staff were not very friendly and seemed very suspicious of visitors. I don't think they want visitors there...

Very mediocre at beat base. Best part was seeing my daughter and all her fellow soldiers. Small pool on base as well as exchange fyi staff at commissary were just slightly nicer than hostile.

We visited the historic quadrangle and were amazed to see peacocks deer and koi fish. We also noticed albino peacocks. The park inside the enclosed quadrangle was very peaceful and Serene. You would never guess you were on a military base. Outside the quadrangle there...More
