The church has a 5 p.m. mass and our wedding was at 7 p.m. At 9 p.m., i understand there is a light show on the front of the Cathedral. The bones of many of the Alamo defenders are thought to have been removed here. Back of the altar is the center of San Antonio. This is great place. It... More

A church is a church. I've been in 1000 cathedrals so, while beautiful, and interesting since it's the oldest in the US, otherwise there's not much to write about. BUT.... go back in the evening for one of the 22 minute shows outside where they project images onto the facade, and it takes on a whole new dimension. What a... More

While on assignment in San Antonio, during my free time, I have the pleasure of visiting several Cathedrals/Churches (Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower) which one of them was the San Fernando Cathedral located on West Mail Plaza in downtown San Antonio. The Cathedral is rich with history and remarkable architecture. The... More

Visited at night, so unfortunately did not get to see inside, but worth the walk to see if even just from the outside

Tuesday night at 9 I visited the plaza to view the light show and learn about Texas. Wow! The story unfolds as the lights change. It was beautiful. Not sure how long the show lasted but it was lovely. Spectacular colors and very educational.

The oldest cathedral in the United States, it predates the revolutionary war by several decades. Well preserved, free entry. This is the interment site of the Alamo heroes, as well as being a functioning Cathedral. Well worth a visit.

The entire area has been changed and my huge tree that used to welcome us with its towering height and wonderful foliage is nowhere to be found. In its place is a new plaza that no longer allows traffic in its immediate front area and had a tent w/a high school group selling some items for a fundraiser. San Antonio,... More
