Bring your bear spray and enjoy the hike.

Beautiful path to hike and enjoy the scenery. We brought a small lunch in our back pack and stopped along the way to eat. There was a lot of bear sign but we did not see one. We... read more

Beautiful path to hike and enjoy the scenery. We brought a small lunch in our back pack and stopped along the way to eat. There was a lot of bear sign but we did not see one. We did see Eagles and a Mink ! That was fun. Bring bear spray and bring bug spray as the gnats can get... More

Beautiful hike, even in the rain. Well maintained trail, two beautiful small lakes, easy access via public bus "The RIDE".

This hike is not to bad for elevation gains. We went just past the lake and were going to do the loop until we ran into a bear. My wife decided to go back the way we came, Great scenery and trail conditions. If you want to pick some salmon berries this is the place. Once you get to the... More

Well marked trail with good footing. Ask locals before you go- landslides took out part of the trail so you can't make a loop. We could go in 2 miles or so. Elevations are moderate and not easy for those of us that live at sea level and not used to inclines. Definitely watch for bears.

Very steep parts to the trail going from one end to another (both trailheads are on the main road). Lots of wild salmon berries to much on in June! Nice lake along the way. One end comes out on the hill behind the Fortress of the Bear where a ton of bald eagles hang out at eye level!

This is my favorite trail of all in Sitka. It's got some easy parts and some tough up and down hill climbs (for an out of shape 55yr old lol!) but it's a short hike - about an hour to the end, with many places for your dog to get a drink, many lakes, streams and waterfalls. I also love... More

I hiked this trail several times. In the summer you can pick lots of salmonberries along the trail. Views of Heart Lake and Thimbleberry Lake are breathtaking with the mountain landscape in the background. There is a small dock with a little row boat on Heart Lake that anybody can use. It does leak a little but not very fast.... More

Started the hike at Thimbleberry/Heart Lake at a paved parking area near waterfall that can be seen from the road. It was a beautiful hike which had some steep incline/decline, benches along the trail for resting. Both lakes were such amazing views. Wild blueberries and salmon berries were ripe for tasting. Crossing of a forge of a waterfall to complete... More

A quiet, peaceful walk through lush Forrest with a rushing stream, waterfall, and a beautiful lake. Very we'll maintained trail.
