On Alaska cruise. Chose to go into Sitka and wander on our own. Got a real feel for the Russian influence and history

ReviewSt Michaels was worth the visit. Have seen pictures over the years but had no real feeling for the size. It was really impressive for its size. Hope to go back next summer.

We happened by and got a private tour. The history is very interesting but, the artifacts are beyond words. This is a must see place if you are ever in Sitka.

The actual fabric of the building is relatively new, a reconstruction of the burned down original. What really makes the experience very interesting is the superb collection of icons and other Russian artwork. Read the material in there, understand more about the Orthodox church, and realize the early importance of Russia as the first non indigenous invaders of this area

It was very interesting to see. We stayed about 40 min taking in the icons and reading the history of the church.

Nice to come inside and see the artifacts and Russian Orthadox Culture. We had a quick chat with the priest and left a donation.
