Takes about 14 miles of non paved washboard road driving to get there, but definitely worth it. We chose the forked pine campground for our stay. The camp host was courteous and provided firewood at a reasonable price upon arrival. The campsites had a fire pit trash receptacles and compost outhouses for your convenience. There was plenty of wildlife to... More

It's a very beautiful and serene setting. We planned to camp and fish on our weekend stay but did far more camping than fishing. As far as getting there, take Lake Mary Road from I-17. Coming from Phoenix we took the road from Munds Park. It was very scenic but I wouldn't recommend with a car, you need clearance for... More

We were surprised at how windy this place was. We camped in a tent here for two nights. We would not recommend this place for beginner campers. The area was very windy, and we later learned that it is usually windy there. The access road is unpaved and very bumpy and will do a number on your suspension, so you... More

Clean campground. Rutted road is hell towing a trailer, but it's far from the crowds. Expansive views.

It's several miles down a well-graded but washboard-bumpy road. The campground toilets are vault, the water supply is a big tank. The fishing can be good or awful depending on when the lake is stocked. The water is murky, and it can get pretty windy (good for some, unpleasant for others). It can attract a crowd on weekends. It has... More

It's pretty crowded when we visit, and not very clean. Have never caught anything here either. I don't think it's worth the drive out, the scenery isn't anything fabulous.

Our trek in to Ashurst Lake led us across the plateau and out of tall pines into scrub oak and juniper. The lake lays against the horizon like a green jewel. Surrounded by volcanic rock, there is room on every edge for fishing and enjoying the water. The camp sites are well laid out but primitive. There was potable water... More

8/7-8/10 We camped in the outer area of the lake it was beautiful. The road is a bit bumpy but the grandkids loved the it, they laughed and enjoyed the ride. There is lots of shade and fire pits. I would recommend anyone there if they want to get away from the city and all the noise.
