Buffalo Central Terminal hosts a series of events and tours throughout the summer months. Plan your trip to see us by visiting our website for a full list of upcoming events, tours, and other information. The Buffalo Central Terminal opened to the public on June 22, 1929. Built by the New York Central Railroad and designed by architects Alfred T. Fellheimer & Steward Wagner, the art deco style station was built to accommodate up to 3200 passengers per hour, or 200 trains per day. The complex consists of the main concourse, a 17 story office tower, a four story baggage building and two story mail building along Curtiss Street, and the now detached train concourse. The complex sits on a 17 acre site 2.5 miles east of downtown Buffalo. The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) was founded in 1997 to oversee the stabilization and restoration of the Central Terminal. Local preservationist Scott Field acquired the 18-acre site, including concourse, tower, and four story baggage building along Curtiss Street, from Samuel Tuchman and B.C.T Inc. for $1 plus the assumption of back taxes owed to the City of Buffalo. The CTRC is an entirely volunteer organization with no paid staff. We rely on grant money, government funds, and donations to continue work on the building and to hold public events. We are a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.

Although the main building is not open to the public, the terminal offers many great views and photo ops. From car shows, train shows and tours, there are many events which do allow terminal entry. Ken Block recently filmed Gymkhana 9 at this location.

This building is thankfully still standing, waiting to be reused again. The inside is breathtaking. Hope it gets its day and we once again have our railway station alive and well. Fond memories come back of train trips and being in the cafe. I would love to take a train trip out of this terminal again.

Don't let the appearance or location scare you off from visiting this. Walking around and being like wtf happened here will leave your mind wondering about everything that has happened here since it shut down to get to the point it is today. The attention to detail on the main building and how pretty the clocks are a good reason... More

Various events are held at the Buffalo Central Terminal throughout the year. My first opportunity to see this masterpiece was at a model train show held at the terminal. I was awed by the craftsmanship that went into the construction of this masterpiece. I also appreciated the enlarged, framed photographs throughout the concourse of what the building looked like in... More

Not sure how or when it's open to the public, but it's like taking a time machine. Make sure you get a chance to look at the beautiful architect and wood work along with the gorgeous flooring.

Took a tour of this building about 2 years ago and it was a work in progress, needing lots of work. Fast forward, attended a jazz concert and was pleasantly surprised of the renovations made to date. Yes, it still needs work however, the improvements are very noticeable. Love the clock tower, restrooms are modern and clean. This particular event... More

Went on 9/10/16 for a train show. The place was nice and clean and the volunteers did a nice job to get It ready for different events.

One day this building will be a monument to Buffalo's glorious past or a lost memoriy, but for now, it is a Grand Dame awaiting a saviour. It is out of the way and run down, but you can see the magnificence that the building once was. It is truly a shame that it is not being actively restored. It... More

No need to get your tux ready for the grand reopening of the Buffalo Central Terminal. Despite what you can read on the web re plans for restoration, it doesn't appear that much is happening on this site to make that possible. Nevertheless, what a building this must have been in its heyday. To visit here and imagine what it... More

My family passed through this building and first loved in the U.S. two blocks from this building. It is majestic! The history of this place is incredible. The number of people who passed through here post WWII is amazing. Anyone who came from NYC to points westward like Detroit and Chicago passed through here.
