Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

I really enjoyed this tour. The house itself is, of course, beautiful and the view of the ocean from the back stunning. It was the set of many movies (The Great Gatsby, True Lies, 27 Dresses - I also thought it looked like Pemberley -...More

A fountain surrounded by a garden greets you in front of the mansion. What a nice way to start your tour. Follow that with your entry into a beautiful ball room. The audio tour allows you to take your time and enjoy the mansion. Leave...More

We only had enough time to do the 2 house tour. We enjoyed walking around this house but it’s much smaller than the breakers and only requires a fraction of the time. It’s also been updated quite a bit so it’s not as interesting as...More

This was the third home we visited on our tour during our day trip to Newport. This home was also a self guided audio which was very nice but shorter than Marble House and the Breakers. It was a lovely home as well but not...More

Rosecliff built 1898-1902, by Theresa Fair Oelrichs, a silver heiress from Nevada. The mansion was modelled after the Grand Trianon of Versailles, but smaller and reduced to a basic "H" shape. Some tragic episodes including neglect so bad that a water pipe burst and flooded...More

We enjoyed touring this mansion, the grounds and listening to the self-guided audio tour. We bought a pass to see several mansions and chose this one as one of the options.

Beautiful mansion and lovely grounds. The grand ballroom was the highlight of this home for us. Very interesting family details and the history of the home was captivating, as well. Beautifully appointed rooms and grounds; the south garden is a treat! Nice museum upstairs was...More

As a huge fan of The Great Gatsby, Rosecliff was a must-see attraction for me. It's was my favorite mansion and the self-guided audio tour provided some fascinating insight into the history of the house and the people who owned it.

The ballroom is magnificent. The self-guided tour is a great feature and really immerses you into what this house was like in its prime. Would love to attend a special event here and think that's where you really experience this mansion is to actually attend...More
