Incredible wealth presumes incredible responsibility. Doris Duke does not disappoint. A thoughtful philanthropist, she established a restoration program which has sought to preserve the city's architectural heritage. And, of course, her beautiful "Summer cottage" should not be missed.

A friend recommended that we visit this well lived in house and we were not disappointed. Our 1 1/2 hour tour by a knowledgeable docent was informative and the house's owner, Doris Duke, was an interesting subject. Duke's art collection of medieval, Renaissance and Chinese...More

This place is awesome,270 deg. ocean view. You get a real live tour guide (Linda) who is knowledgeable about everything in the place. A history lesson about Ms. Duke who was awesome in her own right, pretty much saving the historic character of Newport all...More

This was one of Doris Duke’s homes. We were told it was her “primary” residence, but I think primary residence means something different to the rich than it does to most mere mortals—i.e., it’s the house we live in all the time. Still, it was...More

The Rough Point self guided tour through Doris Dukes summer home is more than just marveling at how the 1% of the 1% lived. She was a true philanthropist who gave generously to the Newport Historical Society. Her contributions helped to make Newport the tourist...More

Good answer by Richard B. Don't miss Rough Point, if you get a chance, watch the movie Too rich - the secret life of Doris Duke. I visited many mansions, but this is the one I made the trip for.
