I can't even imagine what it would have been like to have had that kind of money back then, especially from the coal industry

First time visiting Newport, the preservation society has done an excellent job of maintaining the mansions, the tours were fascinating. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Being handicapped, they were more than accommodating. There is so much to see and do, we enjoyed our entire time while there! Will definitely recommend to anyone, we will be back soon.

There are so many preservation properties that it is impossible to mention all of them. If you go to any of the properties on Bellevue Ave the staff can sell tickets to more than just that property and also offer suggestions on which ones to see based on your interests.

Do the math and you'll see how much you can save by becoming a member. My wife and I got a 2 person membership for $75. We visited 6 mansions, including the Breakers. I figure I saved $127. Every volunteer we met could not have been any nicer.

Wow! What a spectacular "Summer Cottage"! This self guided tour with individual audio narration was great! Our party of four was just wowed! The opulence of Alva Vanderbilt was spectacular! The history of her and her family was explained well by the audio narration. The culture of the times was clearly understood by all! A must see!

The mansions of Newport, Rhode Island are some of the most beautiful, historic and extravagant homes on the planet. From The Breakers to The Isaac Bell their elegance takes your breath away as each room you enter is more astounding than the previous one. For the shear experience of walking through the history of America's Gilded Age there is nothing... More

Purchase a DUO membership and get to see the houses multiple times during the course of a year. One bit of criticism is that the audio tapes of one foreign language do not always follow the written script of another foreign language. I normally take the tour in French and my wife in Italian. There was too much lacking in... More
