From pink flamingos to African giraffes, the Honolulu Zoo is home to a little bit of everything from the animal kingdom. Its animal population includes more than 64 reptile, 38 mammal and 160 bird species. The 42-acre facility is organized into three tropical ecological zones: Tropical Rainforests, Pacific Islands and the African Savanna. Among its highlights is a new $12-million, 1.5-acre Asian tropical elephant exhibit that includes a 7,260-squre-foot holding area and two 55,000-gallon pools.

Love the zoo.

Even though it is small its still a zoo and a great place to take the the kids for a few hours. I love the new elephant display.

The zoo was a time-filler and very average. It's a smaller zoo with a decent selection of wildlife, but the "cages or pens" were lacking. I felt sorry for the animals. After visiting world class zoos, I wanted to free them all. Great for kids, but adults may find this boring and a little depressing. Hard to compete when Oahu... More

I grew up going to The Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas and had never encountered a zoo that quite resembled it until now (nope, not even the San Diego Zoo, sorry). The grounds are beautiful, walkable, and the animals look very well taken care of. The animals have lots of room and space but you can still see them... More

Came here one of the days of our trip. We try to visit the zoo every time we travel. This zoo is pretty big and the animals are so close. Peacocks are wandering around the entire park. Staff were helpful and friendly.

This zoo is right in Waikiki an easy walk from the main strip. It is a great day out in Waikiki. The hire prams made it easy with our 4 year old.

The Zoo is was located within walking limits from Waikiki beach towards the end at the corner of Kapahulu Avenue and Kalakaua Avenue. It cost of ticket per adult was $14. We decided to visit this place after we finished our hike at Diamond Head. This place is open until 1630hrs. This place is very cool to get kids along.... More

Kids loved seeing the Elephants, Giraffe and various other animals. It was sad to see electric fences to "keep" the Elephants inside. I thought it was animal cruelty and did make us sad.

This is our 2nd time coming to this zoo, it is nice and really close to Waikiki. It has the Nene, which is the Hawaiian state bird. A cool kamamoto dragon, giraffes, elephants and really cool howling monkeys. There is a nice playground and kids zoo, it helps to break up the walking. They offer military discount.

Thank Alan A
