From pink flamingos to African giraffes, the Honolulu Zoo is home to a little bit of everything from the animal kingdom. Its animal population includes more than 64 reptile, 38 mammal and 160 bird species. The 42-acre facility is organized into three tropical ecological zones: Tropical Rainforests, Pacific Islands and the African Savanna. Among its highlights is a new $12-million, 1.5-acre Asian tropical elephant exhibit that includes a 7,260-squre-foot holding area and two 55,000-gallon pools.

We liked the variety of monkey they had on display. It's a very small zoo. We walked all over in couple of hours

Having a five month old means doing a lot of pram pushing and if that means going to the zoo for a few hours, then so be it. The Honolulu zoo is quite small in size. You can see it all in under two hours. It was quite saddening to see some of the animals in small enclosures.

This zoo features mostly - and for now exclusively, with the reptile house closed for renovations - outdoor exhibits. Admission price is quite reasonable ($14 adult), with plentiful opportunities on the grounds to snack, sit, and rest in the shade. A visit of 3 hr provides a 'normal' (i.e., slow) adult with adequate time to examine all the exhibits thoroughly... More

Visited the zoo to pass time before we had to leave for the airport. Adult admission was $12 per person. Disappointed since much of the zoo was closed for renovations or the animal exhibit was closed. Best site was the giant tortoise. Kids would enjoy it, but as 2 adults, I would spend time seeing something else.

We always have a great time here so we bought annual Zoo Pass. We go to excerise and see my boyfriend Rusty! He will come right up to the window and interact. He used to be at the Seattle zoo! Violet is from San Fran Cal. I love the beautiful penguins here! They will wave as they swim by. The... More

Great zoo with lots of shade and seating. Animals are really well cared for. The flamingos were so pretty and the monkeys were as entertaining as ever!

My wife and I attended the zoo on our first day in Hawaii. Cheap entry and plenty of animals from around the world too see. Well maintained zoo. Our favourite display was the elephants and the giraffes/zebra displays. This place is easy to walk around and you do so at ur own pace. Great for kids too. Not to forget... More

This is a nice little zoo to visit during afternoon hours because I noticed that the animals know about the zoo closing time and thus become more active during the closure time.. :P There are enough restrooms and interestingly, a small playground in the middle of the zoo for kids. Parents can take a breather meanwhile. The animal collection is... More

Loved the Zoo - it is well set out and even though it's relatively small there is SO much to see. I thought we'd get through it in no time but that wasn't the case. There are some refreshment stops - who doesn't love shaved ice? and the gift shop is cool too!

My kids love this place and insist on going back each time we visit Waikiki. They have such a different variety of animals to what we'd normally see back home, it's so close to where we stay and the staff are lovely and happy to chat about anything.
