Overview
More
The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

The staff and Air Force personnel did a beautiful job at my grandfather's service last week. What a lovely final resting place for our loved ones.

As memorials go, this is a big one. Decent parking but the drive up almost made us turn around because it seemed like a wrong turn. LOL!

We did a short drive through to see this Memorial a short time after Memorial Day. Many grave sites still had flowers from that holiday. The grounds are very well maintained with the drive lined with memorial trees. Wish we could have gotten off the...More

This Cemetery memorializes the true heroes from the North Pacific wars. Very impressive. This Punchbowl burial site was a volcanic crater at one time. All 5he graves are groundlevel so you can see forever and remember.

Not only a beautiful, peaceful place that is, as one would expect of a military cemetery, extremely well kept; but this is also a living history book. The panels in the main memorial give a fantastic history of US military in the Pacific rim from...More

There are numerous flower shops that are right down the road in Chinatown that has beautiful flower arrangements. Safeway is also down the street at the corner of King and Pali. Nothing is sold on site.
