Dying area
Feb 2020
This area seemed about dead. Several of the restaurants (such as Hooters) have closed recently leaving the Sphagetti factory alone. The few retail stores are not worth the trip and it appears most of the market space has been consumed by the college that is now using retail spaces for conference rooms. Even the tower itself seemed run down which is a shame as it is part of the history.

The Tower Itself is a Very Nice Piece of Local History
Feb 2020 • Couples
Marketplace? OK. It’s a pretty standard retail area.
But Aloha Tower itself, now there’s a piece of history. It’s a shame that the majesty of the tower seems lost in the “retail vitalization” of the area. Only a couple of faded and ill maintained storyboards describing the tower.
Lost to history in favor of yet another dose of retail.
Pity.

Sat nite, not much here
Dec 2019 • Solo
This place confuse me. There's not much here. Kind of conference rooms but only a couple of shops and a couple of restaurants. Only Old Spaghetti Factory and Hooters were busy on a Saturday night. Everything else is pretty much closed. They did have one restaurant that was having a private party but that was about it. Not much here really I don't know why it's an attraction.

views of harbour
Oct 2019
This is not a very tall tower, but is very old as towers go. The elevator ride is an experience in itself. There are good views of the harbour area here but it is a small platform area to see from. There is not much of a marketplace around this tower as it seems that the Universite is using most of the buildings and lots of vacant shop area near the tower, so do not expect to go shopping in a marketplace here.

Aloha Tower - a great way to get an awesome view of Honolulu
Nov 2019
Be prepared to have your bag/pocketbook checked; I like this security. It's free to take the elevator up 10 floors for a breath taking view of Honolulu. You can stay as long as you want. Check the hours to make sure the Tower is open. Hooters, The Spaghetti Factory and Gordon Biersch restaurants are nearby.

Views of Honolulu Harbour
Sep 2019
Set in the Aloha Tower Marketplace, this old tower is free to ride to the top to get the 360 degree panoramic views. It is a good spot to catch your bearings and to see this part of the island.

A Good View from the Tower
Oct 2019 • Couples
This marketplace is on the waterfront by the cruise port. It is a pleasant walkthrough with some small shops and bars and restaurants. Some storefronts are empty which is sad. There ate shuttles offered to Hilo Hattie and Walmart...a good way to avoid taxis. We took the elevator to the top of the tower. The tower is pink lighted at night and worth a visit.

Only thing is the tower, but it's a good rest stop
Oct 2019
We happened to need to be in the area so we came down to this area to see the tower. It's basically a college campus. I had heard it was a run down area that was scary but it was no scarier or unclean than any other college campus area I've been in. Tower is not that tall but has a nice view. Not that great but nice. It was good that it had water and a bathroom and that came in handy. You will spend about 5 minutes in the tower. The elevator display on the top floor is old and pretty cool like the ones you see in old cartoons where the arrow hand tells you what floor it's on.

If you aren't going to be in the area don't make a special trip. We happened to want to see the Foster Botanical Garden nearby and were headed back in the direction of Waikiki, so it made sense for us to stop by because we had a lot of time to kill, plus we specifically needed to go to the Walmart nearby to run an errand.

Free admission, minor security bag check that was basically nothing. Closes 5pm.

Former shopping center, turned college campus
Aug 2019
This waterfront redevelopment project opened back in the mid-90s - converting underutilized port facilities into a shopping and entertainment destination. However, just a few short years later in 2002 through mismanagement and isolation from the more popular tourist areas of the city, it went bankrupt. It languished for several more years before Hawaii Pacific University stepped in, converting it into a mixed-use facility. Today, it is mostly a college campus with some restaurants and limited shopping, mainly geared to supporting the university - a Barnes & Noble operated college bookstore, a convenience store presumably catering to the student population, etc.

We visited here recently to check out the Aloha Tower historic landmark, but we did hit the bookstore to find a couple interesting general books on local history and some books authored by faculty members. We also needed some sun screen and found some in the convenience store at a ridiculously high price (price gouging of college students is apparently alive and well in Honolulu). There are also some nice views of the waterfront from the upper deck lounge areas (as well as from the top of the Aloha Tower). The only parking is in a somewhat overpriced gated lot which charges way too much given the paucity of things to do here.

Overall, we cannot really recommend this as a destination unless you have an interest in seeing a Honolulu landmark, i.e., the tower, or taking a nostalgic look at the waterfront of the commercial port that still serves the island.
