Duke was quite the renaissance man! Surfer, Olympic medal holder, actor, hero. His story is very interesting and the statue a fitting tribute to a man who was more than a surfer. A less well known event from his life is when he saved many...More

If you are in Waikiki Beach you have to stop read the plaque and take a picture with one of the most iconic native Hawaiians. Duke not only the father of modern surfing but an Olympic gold medalist!

It will only take 5 minutes but worth stopping by for a photo op. The Duke lived an amazing life with many accomplishments.

We walked along Waikiki Beach to the statue of the Duke and couldn't miss a photo opportunity. Many other people though along the same lines so had to wait our turn.

If your down there, you will see him. All the tourists taking selfies with the statue are the dead giveaway.

This was a must-see in Waikiki, and it didn't disappoint. Our hotel had a magazine with the story behind Duke Kahanamoku, so it gave some perspective before visiting the site. You're not there more than 2 minutes, but it's worth the visit.
