Overview
More
Further along Kalanianaole Highway is the Makapuu Lighthouse hiking trail. This easy route with its moderate incline to the 647-ft. summit is a popular spot during whale season between December and April. This is a definite photo opportunity even when humpbacks aren’t spouting offshore. If you’re really ambitious, tackle a pre-sunrise hike to the top so you can grab a glorious photo of the sunrise.

Nice wide paved trail all the way up. It can be a challenge for some as it just goes up without leveling off at all. No place to sit on the way up and no shade. Bring water and umbrella to shade you from the...More

This hike was our favorite in terms of ease and for it’s spectacular views. We went during whale season and saw a humpback whale jumping out of the water several times in succession close to the shoreline! Also saw a turtle from far. The hike...More

Easy hike as the entire path is paved. The view is awesome and is an excellent place to whale-watch. We took our binoculars and saw several whales breach. Very enjoyable.

Drove over from Ko Olina for the gate opening at 0700. Got to the first lookout just after the sun rose above horizon. Stunning! Even the whales were up! Saw a few. Such a vast view on a clear day. You’ll want to pause and...More

Easy hike, all paved walkways. Lots of views to see. Definitely bring some water and wear shoes, not slippers! Don't forget the Tide Pools with the blowholes!

This hike is completely paved so it is pretty easy. It is a steady incline so it will take some time to get to the top. It is well worth it though

Nice paved trail with great views along the entire trail. Slope is an easy gradual one. Great opportunity to see whales this time of year. Plan on time at some of the higher viewing locations to see if you can spot some!

The trail to the lighthouse is fully paved and has a very gentle incline, anyone without serious mobility issues can complete this trail. For such an easy walk the views were amazing, a highlight of my trip to Oahu and a most do!

Main paths are paved and lots of families enjoyed this hike. Some more rugged paths venture out on occasion. Beautiful views, some whales to watch and enjoy the weather. No special shoes required. Self-guided walk. Fee but limited parking. No washrooms onsite.

Yes, the trail from the parking lot to the light house viewing is paved; its uphill and not too steep and strollers should be quite possible.
