Very interesting museum - you could spend days looking at everything

Very well done museum - gives you an excellent history of and feel for the area. It's a great example of antebellum style architecture dating from 1858 and is virtually unchanged.

We enjoyed this museum which cost us $5 each. There is loads to see and we learnt how the term "dixie" came into being. The French word dix meaning ten was on the reverse of a Louisiana bank note and the phrase having a bunch of dixs' in my pocket came into use. Hence dixie land. We also saw General... More

The wide variety of artifacts and exhibits ensures that there is something for everyone. The sights, sounds and smells of the Old Courthouse adds to the experience, you really feel like you are a part of the history you are learning about.

This museum was just awesome. This was largely due to the personal and cosy way the exhibits are displayed inside the actual old Court House. It depicts life in Vicksburg therefore displays will include a chair used by Ulysses S Grant, ladies' clothing at the time, furniture, exquisitely tiny and beautiful cups and saucers, guns used in the Civil War,... The old courtroom upstairs is a delight to see. As another reviewer said, one can well imagine J. Davis striding into the room to plead his case. Like the courtroom, the exhibits downstairs seem to be from another era. While there has been some attempt to bring interpretations of slavery into the modern world, the view of Reconstruction is two... More

Please go by and see the wonderful artifacts from a long ago era. The museum is chock full of history and the docents are very knowledgeable about the court house and the 47 day siege of the city.

The exhibits were interesting. The historical pieces were nice to see. However we felt that it could be better given the historical significance of Vicksburg. It would have been nice to have learned more about Vicksburg.

What a treasure in the heart of Vicksburg! The collection of historical pieces and their presentation is so educational and interesting. For me, the walk through the old second floor courtroom is priceless. It is totally original, unmolested, and you stand there imagining Jefferson Davis is there when he filed suit to recover his estate taken by the Yankees. A... More
