Large Lake, but visit in the summer months if you want to see it.

We visited in May, and the lake was still frozen, so if this area of the park is high on your agenda, July might be a better time of the year to visit.

We crossed the park from the west to the east and than you pass this lake. It is very big and sometimes there are geysers close to this lake. When we were there it was cold and very windy.

Yes it is ice cold in August but swim in the lake near the Bay Bridge Campground. The shoreline walk east of the campground has geologic features that confound the usual school presentation of "layers" ... worth a photo to prove that you are not crazy in describing them.

This lake is HUGE. Follow the road after Grant Village East, you can drive along the lake to another visitor center Lake is amazing. You cannot see the whole lake from one spot.

We walked the Lake Geyser Basin trail just after sunrise with fog hanging over the Lake, and geysers/springs bubbling away. Made for great pictures! We caught a great photo of a lone bison drinking at the edge of the Lake from Fisherman's Bridge.

You can't see the whole lake from one spot though we had a pretty good one. I took several panoramic photos well worth the stop.

The lake was far larger than I expected. Very pretty. We saw this on our Globus National Park Tour. The lake had some boats with a few small islands. We saw some people fishing.

Went to Yellowstone and found ourselves on trails that went around the lake on several occasions. As the description says, this is the largest mountain lake west of the Mississippi and offers many spectacular views. I would advise finding trails along the rim of the lake and taking it all in. Specifically, we hit a trail close to sunset and... More

Sure, the rivers are important and scenic, but take a look at a map of Yellowstone National Park.. This lake has 110 miles of shoreline and covers 136 square miles. Its maximum length is 20 miles and maximum width is 15 miles. What can you say about an attraction that already has 800+ "excellent" reviews? It's a beautiful lake, viewed... More
