We arrived in the valley well before dawn on a cold September morning after a snow fall in the mountains. The light as the sun came up was nothing short of magical. As the mist rose rose from the valley, what we thought of as rocks and boulders starting moving. We surrounded by dozens of bison. This is another bucket... More

We went in the Spring at the rod to Lamar Valley was the only one open. On the road there were very few cars and all of the pull outs were open. This is the best time to go. We saw full rack Elk, BigHorn Sheep, fawn, many of baby Buffalo and 2 black bears via binoculars. Enjoy Springtime with... More

You can see quite a distance in the valley. Normally you will encounter herds of Bison grazing in the native grasses of the park.

I know some people like the thermal features or the waterfalls, but I loved spending the whole day looking for wildlife in Lamar Valley. If you are nice to the people with scopes, the help you see wolves and grizzlies. We got up close and personal with buffalo, pronghorn, and elk. Go in the morning and at dusk before the... More

Buffalo (Bison) herds were everywhere. It was utterly amazing to see the beauty of this valley and the surrounding areas. Although we didn't see a grizzly bear nor a wolf, we did see a black bear with her two cubs. The only thing I would change about our trip would have been to be in this valley at sun rise... More

We drove to Lamar Valley from Canyon Lodge and it was a hike--over an hour drive--in the evening but it was lovely. We saw lots of wildlife. We packed dinner and just stopped a convenient spot to eat out of our cars and take in the scenery. Several bison passed quite close to us and we saw some beavers. On... More
