A smaller Grand Canyon with gushing waterfalls, though vast and unique on its own. Definitely a park highlight!!! A convenient short walk to spectacular views from parking lot.

I never knew this place existed maybe that is why I was so taken aback by the views. Make sure to hike the path down to the threshold of the falls as it is not only a great photo opportunity but you can really get a feel for the power of the river/falls. Beautiful overlooks on both sides and I highly recommend stopping at as many as you have time for.

This time after leaving Artist Point, we went on a one way (buses are not allowed) trip on a road down the Yellowstone River cliff edge where we agan recrossed to the south side of Chittender bridge, and then stopped along the way at the Top of the Lower Falls, where we went on foot = down 600 ft. on a 1/2 mile of switch back trail to the top of the falls. Again wow what a treat down to the water's edge! The one way road along the south canyon rim passed numerous turn outs (Brink of the lower falls / lookout point / grand view / inspiration point); for a stop to view the falls and canyon from the South side of the river.

So beautiful! Yellowstone has so much to offer and this spot did not disappoint. We came in the late afternoon around 4pm. It was still beautiful but the afternoon low light did not make for great photos. I would recommend coming here midday when the sun is high so you can see Yellowstone's namesake...the yellow rock walls of the canyon.
