This has become my wife and I's favorite hike in the park. If you want complete solitude, great wildlife viewing, and beautiful scenery, this hike has it all for you. Be extremely careful on this hike though and bring bear spray. The first quarter of...More

I began from the Mammoth visitor centre with my family in July 2017. The day was perfect as it was cool and cloudy, threatening a thunderstorm. In the end only a few big drops fell. This hike crosses several types of terrain. We did not...More

Everybody told us there were bears (we didn't see one) and we turned back after +- half of it,, I guess, after the first (disappointing) pond

If you can go with a group led by a Ranger! Theres a lot to see and tons to learn so going with a guide really makes the experience better.

It's a very nice walk of about 5 miles, only mildly strenuous. However, the last mile and a half (roughly) is completely exposed if you go clockwise. So if you do the walk in the morning you'll reach the exposed section at midday--not nice. Go...More

Followed the gentler CCW path beginning behind the hotel. As other reviews have noted it as kind of confusing, take the path across the old dirt road. Also at the end, while going CCW, there is a very steep switchback which heads north and then...More

We didn't get to hike the whole trail because it started raining a mile into it and my son wanted to turn back, but the part we did hike was beautiful! The view once you reach the top of the switchbacks is gorgeous, and the...More

This hike has a fairly strenuous start but soon levels out and is a lovely stroll thereafter. The 5-mile loop is a mix or forest and meadow - with the last beaver pond providing a lovely spot for a picnic lunch.
