A good collection of ancient traditional Sri Lankan masks. You can buy masks there . There is a mask museum and you can learn about the culture , history and different kinds of masks .

Our tour guide for the day drove us here a part of his tour package. It was interesting to see the masks being made (donation box alert), but the museum really took the cake. The museum guide acted like she was being held hostage and forced to give tours. I've rarely seen someone less enthusiastic about her job. The tour... More

"Ariyapala Mask Museum" and Handycrafts Store, located near the main road is a great place to see and understand about the Sri Lankan Traditional Masks as well as the culture behind those masks. Other than displaying masks of famous "Daha Ata Sanniya" there are illustrations and Detailed texts related with the masks, how they originated, what are their details, etc.... More

I visited all shops and museums in Ambalangoda for the masks and I would recommend one should visit all if there is time. They have very unique ones in the museum indeed. A bit more expensive than in the rest of the places, but totally worth it.

Ariyapala & Sons is one of the best places to buy the Sri Lankan Wooden mask, a best souvenir. Apart from shopping you can get a hands on feel of how a wooden mask is actually made in the workshop next to the shop. Prices are fair, Quality is good.

Huge range of masks of all styles and prices, all carved on the premises. High prices also so don't forget to bargain.

We visited many shops but had been informed this establishment was the oringinal and the best both for quality and price. I AGREE. We purchased a wonderful medium size Peacock mask and were able to take it with us. Beware, we understand there can be problems in trying to ship masks out of the country by people in the airport... Gave insight into the history of the masks which you see being sold everywhere in Sri Lanka. It was a small family run business, and passed 45 mins or so.

Nice, small, immaculately maintained place in amalaguda. This had a store upstairs and a very quaint museum downstairs. Small but worth the visit, the stories behind both mask making and the masks themselves were captivating. And always nice to buy a mask for good luck.
